Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented health crisis. Many government agencies have taken the drastic step of confining people to their homes to prevent further infections. This period of confinement has brought about a number of negative consequences for people's health, and especially for the youngest. Anthropometric measurements, jumping test, grip strength and tapping test were performed before and after the confinement to assess the impact of sedentarism on a group of 19 children aged 13. This inactivity has caused a worsening of their physical characteristics such as an increased body fat (p = 0.006), ICC (p=0,014), and a decline in the jumping test (p = 0.016). In addition, an excellent correlation between the importance given by the parent to Physical Education and physical performance assess by tapping test (.624) and jump (.694) could be seen. It is concluded that the period of confinement has adverse effects on body composition and physical condition in children
