Planning project for a study trip by students
Keywords:
Financial education, education about consumption, primary education, schoolchildrenAbstract
Financial education is not considered as a specific subject until secondary education. However, both current educational law (LOMCE) and advice provided by international bodies such as the OCDE recommend that it be introduced at early life stages. This will favour the acquisition of responsible consumption habits amongst students, in addition to forming the basis of financial autonomy in future adulthood.
In this way, with the objective of contributing to the development of the aforementioned recommendations, we present a teaching unit focused on education around consumption that is directed to schoolchildren enrolled on the sixth year of primary school. The study was cross-sectional in nature and was carried out throughout the academic year. This unit comprised eight activities within which financial contents were approached in a way that they acquired meaning and relevance to students. All activities responded to a need of the school setting, which was the planning of an end of year trip.
The proposal, which contributes to the acquisition of key competencies, is based on an active methodology in which the student plays a leading role. It promotes the use of new technologies for the resolution of tasks and favours cooperative learning when carrying out the majority of group activities. Further, the sessions are easily replicated and easily accessed thanks to a digital blog in which all of the developed resources are made available.
